CDB Data Policy

Whom to acknowledge when using the data

If you use the data, please acknowledge the team (Alice Crespi, Michael Matiu, Andrea Vianello; Institude for Earth Observation and Center for Sensing Solutions, Eurac Research).

Additionally it is required to acknowledge the original source of the data used:

  • BZ: Amt für Meteorologie und Lawinenwarnung, Autonome Provinz Bozen Südtirol / Ufficio Meteorologia e prevenzione valanghe, Provincia Autonoma di Bolzano Alto Adige
  • TN: Meteotrentino, Provincia Autonoma di Trento
  • CH: MeteoSwiss, Swiss Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology
  • AU: Reference to HISTALP paper and source website. See here for more information.

Data Policy in detail

The data policy differs by type of data (original or derived) and by the source of the data. In the following the different policy by data base table.

Metadata

The table metadata contains the metadata of the stations (location, altitude, some post-processing indicators, ...). We deliver it under the license CC-BY-4.0, that is free to use for any purpose, to share, but with appropriate credit and indication of changes.

Climatologies

DOI: 10.48784/egx7-rz63

The table climatologies is derived data. We deliver it under the license CC-BY-4.0, that is free to use for any purpose, to share, but with appropriate credit and indication of changes.

Daily station data

DOI: 10.48784/b1np-2628

The table stations_data contains original data (some of which underwent post-processing) with daily time series. For these, the policy depends on the data source:

  • Province of Bolzano: The data are supplied with a CC0 license, which means public domain and no rights reserved.
  • Province of Trento: The data are openly accessible on the Meteotrentino website, without any specification of data usage. We assume it is free to use for research purposes and possibly also other usages.
  • The Swiss data is not to be shared (no access available in the CDB), but anyone from Eurac can register themselves at IDAWEB and gain free access to all the data.
  • The Austrian is not be shared (no access available in the CDB), but it can be downloaded directly from the HISTALP website. It is free to use for non-commercial research purposes.
